It was one of those mornings during the Bayram feast when I heard something quite peculiar: " Wise people don't get promoted."

That same week, I watched a video where a CEO admitted to watching The Godfather before making critical decisions.

These two moments gave birth to a single question: Why don't organizations promote wise people, and what does this have to do with agentic AI?

Autonomous, strategic, accountable. Exactly the profile agentic AI needs — but even he isn't fully promoted by the family, because what they value isn't his wisdom, but his controllability.

Research spanning Gallup to RAND, from Harvard to MIT Sloan confirms the same thing: organizations that prioritize loyalty over wisdom lose their most talented people, just as they lose their agentic AI investments.

Organizations face two paths ahead. One is promoting the Sonnys and losing the Michaels. The other, the harder one, is rewarding wisdom.
